Internal Family Systems (IFS) Coaching

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps us to understand that we all have different parts within us. These can have their own feelings, beliefs and ways of protecting us that put us in conflict with ourselves and others

Instead of wrestling for control within ourselves and fighting these parts, we learn to listen to them with curiosity and compassion, thus improving communication and reducing inner tension.

How can parts work help?

Tired of labels and judgements that dont help?

It can be a great relief to stop seeing yourself as a defective whole and let go of the painful and unhelpful labels that go with that.

Parts work gives us the space to understand and communicate with the different, sometimes conflicted parts of ourselves. This compassionate approach can bring greater clarity, integration and calm.

Understanding your Inner Parts?

Understanding your inner parts can be a great relief if you are tired of swimming upstream against a fixed idea of who you are.

As you get to know the parts behind certain thoughts and behaviours, you may begin to see yourself less as defective and more as a feeling human being who has adapted to past experiences and circumstances to survive.

These adaptations are not bad or ill-intentioned. As you get to know your parts, you can begin to understand their beliefs and behaviours, allowing greater freedom to make choices that enrich and enhance your life as a whole.

Fed up with seeing the same dynamics get played out in your relationships?

Stop getting caught up in self-criticism and start exploring new ways of doing things.

IFS coaching can help you listen more deeply to your inner voices without letting the inner critic take over. Talk it through with me, and let's explore how you might begin to break the cycle.

Experience the benefits

IFS coaching involves exploring your own inner system in a clear, gentle and compassionate way.

I will help you learn to interact with your parts or inner voices with greater understanding, rather than judgement. This process can support greater calm, self-awareness and confidence in how you relate to yourself and others.

How have trauma and traumatic events shaped your experience?

IFS can also help us understand the parts of ourselves that have taken on the role of coping with difficult or traumatic experiences. We can learn to appreciate the protective purpose of these parts, even when their reactions seem difficult or unhelpful.

As Richard Schwartz, the founder of IFS, puts it: “There are no bad parts.”

What can you do?

I will accompany you as you explore your inner world and discover which parts of you may be influencing your choices and behaviour.

If you can handle my sense of humour and are willing to take the next step, give me a call.

What Now?

If you book a sample session you will be able to decide if my coaching is a good match for you.  We can come to an agreement over what you want to achieve and get started.  I commit to using my skills, to help you become more aware of yourself in a new and different way.  Your gifts, qualities, values and abilities and strengths are your levers for progressive and durable change in your attitude towards yourself.  You decide the areas of your life that you would like to enhance and improve.

It is not my job to tell you what to think, believe or do.  It will be my responsibility to point out the inconsistencies that might be getting in the way and determine where you are sabotaging yourself or in a rut. Sometimes this is not comfortable.  I am not there to provide quick fixes, nor do I believe in the tyranny of positivity or spiritual bypassing. My role is to get you fully on board with yourself so that you can make the best of what your life is offering.

Generally speaking, the frequency of our sessions can be as much as once a week to start with, most clients find significant relief within a six to ten week period and then may choose to reduce the frequency of our sessions or terminate them, coming back for further sessions as wanted.

Fees by arrangement.  I would not expect a young adult on minimum wage to pay the same as the VP of a Fortune 500 company.
